At Krishify, we believe in transforming agricultural practices through digital innovation and community empowerment. Last year, we embarked on an inspiring journey with cumin farmers in Rajasthan, culminating in a remarkable community project that exemplifies our commitment to agricultural excellence.
Building a Dedicated Cumin Community
Our initiative aimed to create a robust support system for cumin farmers across Rajasthan using the Krishify app. By blending digital connectivity with on-ground engagement, we sought to provide comprehensive agronomy guidance throughout the growing season.
Meeting Deda Ram Jani: The Hero The Farmer
Deda Ram Jani, a diligent farmer from Bytu, Rajasthan, became a pivotal part of our journey. Facing challenges with his cumin crops, Deda Ram reached out to us through our Krishify app platform, seeking urgent assistance.
Our team swiftly responded by sending an agronomist to assess his farm. This personalized approach not only resolved his immediate concerns but also strengthened our bond with the community.
Discovering Local Insights
While working on this project, we discovered several localized insights that helped us tailor our advisory for farmers in different markets. For example, wilt is a major issue in cumin crops, often caused by a fungus due to soil moisture, destroying the root first and eventually leading to dead plants. Many farmers mistook it for a pest issue and applied foliar sprays of pesticides and fungicides without success. Our team educated them about the real cause of wilting with demonstrations and advised applying fungicides through drenching, which resulted in a positive response. This built trust, leading farmers to consult our agronomists before applying any nutrition or crop protection products.
As you move from Jodhpur to Nagaur to Barmer and then Jaisalmer, soil changes from clay to sand. Clay soil retains more moisture, increasing the chances of wilting. In such regions, preventive care is crucial, using Trichoderma during soil preparation to mitigate wilt becomes crucial.
From Field Visits to Village Meetings
As the season progressed, Deda Ram’s success story resonated throughout his village. Recognizing the widespread impact, we organized village meetings where farmers could voice their concerns and receive expert advice firsthand. These gatherings fostered a spirit of collaboration and knowledge-sharing, empowering farmers to make informed decisions about their crops.
Key Success Factors

Looking Ahead
This is just the beginning. Currently, Krishify is managing cumin farmers growing IPM/organic cumin across 1000+ hectares in Barmer and Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. We have facilitated the supply of over 450 metric tons of organic/IPM cumin so far, ensuring complete traceability throughout the value chain.
As we continue to expand our reach into other commodities and deepen our impact, we remain committed to empowering farmers and fostering resilient agricultural communities.
